【Important】Safety Measures Regarding Bear Activity at the Sendai International Half Marathon 2026
In recent years, there has been a nationwide increase in reported bear sightings and incidents involving harm to people.
To ensure that all runners and event staff can safely participate in and operate the race, the following safety measures will be implemented in coordination with relevant authorities:
(1) The water station previously located in front of the Sendai International Center has been relocated to the front of the Sendai Legal Affairs General Building.
(2) Event staff assigned to areas where bear activity is of concern will carry bear deterrent spray.
(3) “No Cheering Zone” will be established along the course, mainly in the area around the 7.7 km point (Ōhashi Bridge). Spectators are kindly requested to refrain from cheering in this area.
(4) Bear deterrence measures using sound will be carried out on the day before and on the day of the race.
Please note that if a bear appears on race day, or if there are reports of bears or other wild animals sighted on or near the course, and if it is determined that ensuring safety is difficult based on a comprehensive assessment, the event may be canceled, with the safety of participants as the highest priority.
In the event of cancellation, entry fees will not be refunded. We appreciate your understanding in advance. We will take every possible precaution to ensure a safe and secure event.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
