Okayo's successful career as a professional runner started when she placed second in the Chicago Marathon in 1999. She came in the third in the New York City Marathon in 2000 and won the New York City Marathon in 2001. In the Boston Marathon in 2002, she beat the then world-record holder in the women's marathon, Ndereba (Kenya), and won the gold medal with a time of 2:20:43, which attracted worldwide attention.
She finished most races over the last few years either in first place or as a medal winner and established a reputation for consistent strength. Okayo surpassed many strong Kenyan runners to be selected as a marathon team member for the Athens Olympics. She placed fourth in this year's London Marathon.
This is her second appearance in the Sendai International Marathon in the last two years since her first entry in the race in 2003. She will undoubtedly excite the fans along the road with her persistence as she did in competition with veteran runners of the world in the past. 154 cm 44 kg Born in 1976 Age: 29
