In terms of full marathons, he won the Boston Marathon in 1998
(2:7:34), and finished second in the Chicago Marathon (2:06:16)
in 1999. Because of his distinguished record, he has reigned

seconds behind the Japan record. He participated in the International
Chiba Ekiden Rroad Rally as an anchor for the Japanese team.
He passed by three runners and led the team win. |

She made two consecutive third finishes in the Osaka International
Ladies Marathon in 1999 and 2000. In the latter event, she marked
2:23:31, which beat her time from the previous year in this
event by more than two minutes. |
