| He won the Honolulu Marathon
(2:16:08) held in December 1995 as well as the South Africa
Marathon (2:11:46) in February 1996. Then, by winning the dead-heat
race to the finish line, he was crowned the gold medalist in
the Atlanta Summer Olympics in August 1996. The gold medalist
participated in the Fukuoka International Marathon in 1997 and
won the race in 2:07:28. This result was the meet-record and
ranked 10th among world records. |

Summer Olympic Games (2:31:11) in August 1996, and finished

next year. This was followed by a 3rd place finish in the World
Track and Field Championships in Athens (2:31:55) in August
1997. She won the Osaka International Ladies Marathon at 2:28:31
in January 1998. It was her first win in a marathon. She won
the same event in 1999 with a meet-record of 2:23:24. |

both the Tokyo City Half Marathon (1:09:45) and the Sapporo
International Half Marathon. Then, she won the Shibetsu Half
Marathon. In 1997, she finished second in the Sapporo International
Half Marathon.
In 1998, she participated in the Sendai Half Marathon. Displaying
formidable power and leaving the rest far behind, she won the
race in 1:10:09, setting a significantly faster new meet-record.
In 1999, she finished second at 1:06:49 in the Tokyo City Half
Marathon. This record was merely 6 seconds behind the world
best.
She ran her first marathon in the Osaka International Ladies
Marathon in 1999 and finished 3rd at 2:25:40. |

in the Atlanta Summer Olympic Games in August 1996.
She also displays her ability on the road. As a Romanian team
member, she has participated in the Ekiden Road Rally, including
the Chiba International Ekiden and the Yokohama International
Women's Ekiden, and was the leg winner several times. |
